Fingerprint identification is one of
the most historic biometrics around today, most of us now use them to unlock
laptops and mobile phones. It’s common knowledge that everyone possesses unique
fingerprints yet extracting these is a different task. Fingerprint biometrics
are usually found in the following:

·      Medical
distributions

·      Prison control

·      Passports

·      Banking

·      Mobile phones
and laptops

 

In order to
take an image of a fingerprint, there are several underlying factors which will
influence the accuracy and the success/fail rate. There are three main types of
sensors that are used, these are optical, capacitive and ultrasonic. Table 2
illustrates the types of measurements each capture device looks for.
